THIGH REJUVENATION

Frequently asked questions

What are the aims of thigh rejuvenation?

The aim of thigh rejuvenation surgery is to:

  • Create a smooth and natural contour to the skin of the thighs at the front, back and sides.

  • Tighten the skin so that it is taut, without wrinkles or laxity.

  • Create a natural shape to the thighs that is in proportion with the rest of the body.

  • Position scars so that they are well hidden and subtle.

What are the different types of thigh rejuvenation surgery?

There are different treatment options available depending on how much soft tissue excess a patient has and where it is located. At Mohan Plastic Surgery we are able to provide mini- and full thigh lifts, both in combination with liposuction when required.

We would always recommend a face to face consultation so that patients can discuss their specific needs and undergo a thorough assessment. This will allow us to create a bespoke treatment plan tailored to each individual.

Who is a good candidate for thigh lift?

Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with a surplus of loose skin are good candidates for surgery. These patients have worked hard to lose their weight but often cannot achieve the contour to their thighs that they desire because of excess skin.

Some patients have always had ‘bigger’ thighs or have been unhappy with the shape of their legs. Thigh rejuvenation may be a good option in these individuals.

What is the right time for a thigh lift?

With any body contouring procedure, the best time to undergo surgery is when you have reached your target weight and one that you feel you can maintain in the long term. Your weight should ideally have remained stable for six months prior to surgery.

This is to ensure that the cosmetic outcome following surgery is not compromised and to minimise the risk of complications and maximise healing.

What is the recovery like after thigh lift?

Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and is usually a day case procedure. This means that you will be able to go home the same day you have your operation. Our specialist recovery teams will help patients mobilise and ensure they are comfortable and safe prior to discharge.

The initial dressings following surgery will stay on for the first 5-7 days. Following this first dressing change patients are able to shower and use a simple micropore tape dressing on the scar.

We recommend that our patients use a compression garment for six weeks postoperatively. This helps to minimise swelling and reduces the risk of complications. After discharge from hospital, simple tablet painkillers are usually enough to keep patients comfortable.

We recommend avoiding driving and long haul flights for at least four weeks after surgery. Patients are usually back to normal 6-8 weeks after surgery.
